Diff Fix Update.......
Yes guys I feel confident of my fix. Ive ran a half gallon of fuel through them with no slippage! Im going to post a short recap of what I used to do
this fix.
The pinion, and crown gear are junk on the diffs, and I own 2 OFNA Hyper 7 buggys. Now I know that the diffs are very similar to the TTR diffs from
the ofna H7 diffs, so I pulled the diffs out of the buggy, pulled pinion out also, and then put the pinion w/o shims, into the ek4 gearbox. I then
took the whole H7 diff, and installed it into the ek4(now the H7 diff is a touch wider at the bearings than the ek4 diff, but it does fit). Now I did
not do anything else (I did need the drive cup for the pinion from the H7)except use the original screws to reassemble the gearbox back then mounted
to the ek4. I did that to see if I could get premature diff failure, and so far nothing! I havent done a visual check of the teeth on the H7 pinion or
crown gear, but I did check if I could get them to slip, and NOTHING! I will put an article with part #'s on Jacks site, as he will have the
exclusive to this story! I could of sold/kept this a secret, but I want us to be sucessful with the ek4, not TTR! If anybody needs help, or anything
you can post here or email me! Please do not post this anywhere else w/o my permission. BTW this hasnt been tested in any other truck, so its not a
100% guarantee that it does work, but it kicks ass in mine!
Thanks,
Jr

---------Update----------
Heres a parts list for the Hyper 7 Diffs.
These are out of the OFNA Manual Ace hobbies Part #'s
\/ \/
#87001 Crown Gear #19001
#87002 Bevel Gear #19002
#87003 Diff Drive Shaft #19003
#87004 Diff case #19004
#87021 Center cup
joint (2 pcs.) #19021 (this only needs to be bought once, 1 cup for frontt and one for rear)
#87028 Drive pinion gear #19028
You also will need (2) 8x16 bearings per diff, or you can use the ones from the EK4 diffs. (I believe they are the same)
You can either run grease, or diff fluid. The higher the # weight the less diff action you will have. 100,000 is an almost locked posi diff. I dont
know what weight grease my diffs have in them, as they were filled many moons ago, but they feel around like a 10,000 weight.
Now you will notice when installing the diff, that it is a tad wider than the EK4 diff, but it does fit. I used no other diff or gearbox mod just the
stock plastic EK4 gearbox, and they have no noticable wear on them after about a gallon of fuel.
Any other help, just ask!
Im sorry that I left out the pinion and center drive cups part #'s! CRS was kicking in. I think this needs an article w/ pics for Jacks site instead
of this! =)

Checking on Hyper 7 Parts
Jr-
How is the diff mod holding up? All you need for it are the parts you listed?
#87001 Crown Gear #19001
#87002 Bevel Gear #19002
#87003 Diff Drive Shaft #19003
#87004 Diff case #19004
I am confused as to what the parts are exactly. I am guessing the crown gear sits on the diff case. Is the bevel gear the gear off the center drive
shaft? What is the diff drive shaft and what about the gears inside the diff? Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to make sure I order what
I need. I haven't smoked my diff yet, but when I do, I want to be ready.

This is a scan of the diff page in Jr's Hyper 7 manual. Sorry I didn't get the page with the pinion gear on it.

Hi Jack , Gee wizz they look very similar to TTRs diffs !
Is it possible to just fit the Main Diff gear and the pinion shaft , will it fit on the TTRs diff cases .
As then the conversion will cost a bit cheaper .
Thanks Steven

Hrmm I never tried that. I just used the whole diff cuz it was all built and filled. I never had a problem with any of the driveline on my Hyper 7, so
I just stole the whole diff. The expensive parts are the crown and bevel gears around 36 dollars, and the other parts come to 14 dollars. I can try
and see if the gears will drop right on when I think of it.

Pinion gearoff the center drive shaft
JR-
So that is all you have to replace? The EK4 pinion gear that comes off the center drive shaft (from the spur gear) meshes with the Hyper 7 crown
gear? Thanks for the info.

No you need the Hyper 7 diff/w crown gear, and the Hyper7 pinion. You also need the pinion drive cups(I dont know if I put a part # to those, but I
will if it isnt listed, and thats it. The EK pinion and crown gear are both junk!

Shimming your pinion, Dan, is your first line of defense. By all means, do it.

You can shim(pinion), but so far so good w/o any. mesh is nice and tight, but there is some slack left in it to see if I could get premature wear.
none yet! With the whole diff, The H7 pro diffs dont need to be shimed!

No the diff and the pinions run on bearings eliminating the wear. So no matter how many miles on the truck there will never be any wear on the plastic gearbox.

so basically
So to fix the diff's in the EK4, you need complete front and rear Hyper7 diff's, and they will slot into place fine and fit well with the Ek4?
cheers

Jr, a quick question. Are you using the Ofna Hyper 7 diff cases as well as the ring/pinion/diff assemblies?
If you are, how would you mount them on the EK4 chassis with all the other parts to fit? Pics would be much appreciated.

Or are you putting them into the EK4 diff cases?

I updated the post with all the part #'s! Im like 99.9999999% sure that the ek and the H7 bearings are the same. most buggy's use that size
exclusively all around except for the clutch bearings.

Thanks Jr, I've ordered all the parts now to do the complete rear-end swap. If the front goes I'll do that next.
I'm still wondering if this goes into the stock plastic EK4 diff housings though.

Do you use the stock screws to hold the bulkhead together or bolts that go all the way through?
Thanks
