Why does my engine/heatsink look different to everyone elses?
Hi there, im a newbie whos just bought an EK4. Can anyone tell me why my engine looks different to all the others ive seen? It is a Thunder Tiger size
70 engine, but the heatsink looks totally different. Its not round, its square and kind of flat looking. The guy said hes owned the EK4 from new and
that its the original engine it was bought with. I just dont know why the heatsink is square. Any ideas please guys?

He owned it from new alright. It's an original (version 1). Get a new head for that or get massive amounts of air to the head

The first ones to roll out had the small heads and the diff cases that both liked to go BOOM.
They where the ones that tarnished the EK4's image.

Well, I should hopefully be ok.
Luckily I have the version 1, a version 2 and another version 2 hopefully on the way, so i should be ok for spares and be able to make at least one
realy good one. If all else fails , im getting a brand new Hpi savage in two
weeks anyway. . Can anyone tell me which is the better Savage to buy
out of the X4.6 or the XL5.9? Any advice and comments gratefully recieved.
P.S, I need to get some new EK4 shocks (complete). Does anyone have any recommendations of realy good shocks that will go on my EK4? (Preferably
aluminium but not too expensive). Thanks guys. I apreciate the help.

Ofna shocks worked for me for other things. They may fit the EK4. If I remember right someone put the Losi LST shocks on it. Not the cheapest way to
go but those HUGE shocks look perfect on ek

Sorry Dirt Dummy, you did try and you were right, the Verion 1 does have the Heli Head. Exactly like the one in the link you sent. So thanks for
figuring that one out for me mate. I digressed a bit onto the subject
of shocks though, which was what i meant when i said no one else answered. So thanks to EVERYONE who replied, especially Dirt Dummy for ansering my
original question. In case you need a laugh or cheering up, i have a little story i'd like to share with you all: The Verion 1 EK4 I bought on ebay
with the Heli Head, the guy said he'd owned if from new and had "NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT"!! When it arived i was so excited ,(could it be true? a V1 EK4, never thrashed, broken or abused? a lovely shelf queen who'd never had the rough stuff ready for me to have my wicked
way with?) NO! This thing was absolutely hanging! Every single shock was
leaking shock oil everywhere, e-clips were missing in places, but the
worst was yet to come! I noticed oil was leaking out of the backplate where the starter coupling sits on the shaft, so i whipped the engine out, took
off the backplate, only to find all the components inside were rusty as hell,(apart from the CON-rod,which had obviously been replaced as it was nice
and shiny),There was a massive chunk missing out of the rear of the crankshaft ,(which even the surface of the broken bit was rusty so it had obviously been done some time), presumably it had been smashed off by a broken
CON-rod. I phoned the seller to ask him about the broken crankshaft, and also to ask why he'd lied and said he'd never had any problems with it , and he said:"Well I didn't know there was a chunk missing out of the
crankshaft"! To which i replied"Yes you did, otherwise the broken
piece would still be in there!" And do you know what he said? (And here comes the punchline!)..."Maybe it got smashed up into dust and blown out of
the exhaust!!!". Im thinking"Oh thanks mate, that makes me feel a whole
lot better, the engine must be ok now then!(NOT!)" The moral of the story is: BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN BUYING EK4'S ON EBAY, AND TRY TO AVOID THE
VERSION 1 ALTOGETHER.
