OFNA Monster Pirate Dominator Tires and Wheels on the EK4. Someone, (Thanks Aaron) once asked me in an email if the MP Dominator Wheels would fit the EK4. I had never seen one, so I obviously answered that I had no idea. Well, after smoking the Clutch both times I ran the truck the other day I decided it was time to try a different Tire/Wheel combination to see if it would help. The stock Tires and Wheels are just so heavy. Not to mention my Foams were a little soggy adding to the weight and they were horribly out of balance. If I gave the truck any throttle while it was off the ground, the whole truck would go into a violent shake. So, I figured it was worth a shot. I had been eyeing the MSJ Aluminum Wheels for some time, but was unsure if they would hold up under the abuse and also didn't really want to spend $200.00 (Tires and Wheels) to try something I may not like. So I ordered a set of the MP Dominator, (more commonly known as MT3) Wheels in hopes that either they would work or I could make them work. If I couldn't make them work, we always have the MP's to use them on. The wheels are available in white and neon yellow and are priced at $16.95 for all four at Ace Hardware Hobbies. I couldn't make up my mind which color I wanted, so I ordered one set of each. Note: You can also dye them with Rit dye, if you don't like white or yellow. I had originally hoped to get the Pro-Line Maxx Mulcher Tires to go on them but nobody seemed to have them in stock, so I went with the OFNA Dominator Tires as well, ($14.95 pr. w/foams) at Ace Hardware Hobbies. On to the Pics. Click on the little picture to make it bigger. My Review. They fit just like they were made for the EK4. No modifications required. I took it out for a blast and I was amazed at the difference. Talk about a change of personality. The EK4 converts from a clumsy uncontrollable beast into a real "get the heck out of my way" race truck. It is very, very quick now, like a Jack Rabbit. Darting anywhere and everywhere you point it. It definitely is a night and day difference. Not that the EK4 was ever slow. It was just clumsy and awkward handling. With the smaller tires, it seems like you could actually take it out on a track and whoop some serious butt. The Clutch seemed to be really liking the weight and rotating mass reduction. I only ran 1 tank of fuel, but the clutch never heated up or slipped. I'll know better on Sunday. Update: Five tanks
of fuel now and no slipping from the clutch.
It did lose a noticeable amount of top end speed. After measuring the roll out on the stock tire and the dominator tire, it appears to be a 20% loss in top end speed. So if 49 m.p.h. is the correct top speed with an 18T clutch bell and stock tires, then it is now lowered to app. 39 m.p.h. Update: I had the opportunity to test the speed by police radar. It confirmed my suspicion that the stock top speed that is floating around the internet may be a little or even a lot optimistic. It doesn't in any way lessen how much I love the EK4. It still gets to that speed so fast it's amazing. I just thought I should mention it. With the stock tires and the 18 tooth clutchbell, it tested out at 38 mph. That should equate to app. 30 to 31 mph with the Dominator wheels and tires. That, (30 to 31 mph) is probably pretty close to what the actual top speed is in stock form with the large tires and 14 tooth clutch bell. Of course this is all dependent on the accuracy of the Police Radar and the method we used to determine the speed. I will update with any additional information on EK4 speed testing. These numbers do confirm my long time suspicion that the stock top speed was not 37.5 mph. I have to admit - They do look a little bit small on the Truck. I'm not sure if the Maxx Mulchers are larger or not. I'm going to find that out on Sunday. A friend has a new set that he wants to sell. Part Numbers. * OFNA MT3 wheels -Yellow- 4pak

#81154 Side Note: If you are one of the people having Gear problems and are thinking about doing a tire swap, you might also want to consider that running smaller tires will definitely put a lot less strain on the gears. It could get you running until the solution to that problem is available. Other Reviews Wanted If anyone else tries these wheels and tires or a similar combination and would be interested in doing a little review, I would love to be able to add others reviews to this. That goes for anything on the site. If you have anything to add, please email me or catch me on the forum.
